Our project will address outstanding gaps in our fundamental scientific understanding of the physical processes underlying the monsoon. At the same time, the advances made will be used in the service of advancing prediction of the monsoon on the seasonal to interannual time scale, thus connecting operational forecasting to the underlying theory of the general circulation.
