Unit Affiliation: International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI)
DESCRIPTION: The project seeks to improve agricultural yield predictions in Brazil by 1) improving seasonal climate forecasts, and 2) improving sources of information and tools directly related to crop yields.
OUTCOMES: The team has worked on developing a range of Gaussian models to work on climate predictions. Dr. Ines has been put in contact with the Brasilia team too. Soil water balance and plant available water content have been used to calibrate crop simulation models combined with the climate models. A web-based tool is being developed to automate crop yield forecasts.
