DESCRIPTION: Researchers will identify and lay the groundwork for sustainable engineering opportunities within PepsiCo International's operations, at the same time creating a platform for researchers to examine best practices, low-carbon technologies and policies, and how their function within an international manufacturing firm.

OUTCOMES: 2007-2012: Expected the development of a scalable methodology to evaluate sustainable operations and investments with a focus on quantifying drivers of carbon footprints and identifying reduction solutions for Pepsi's 6,000+ consumer products; the identification of specific technical interventions for carbon management tailored to Pepsi operations; advisory services for Pepsi's Eco Circles, green fertilizer, and other ad hoc projects; and the publication of the project results to both academia and industry. Having devised and deployed a product LCA strategy (2007-09) and developed an automated fast LCA methodology (2010-11), Lenfest & PepsiCo partnership is refining this methodology as multidisciplinary business support tool (2012).
