DESCRIPTION: This project will use IceBridge airborne radar data to analyse conditions of the bed under Thwaites Glacier. Thwaites Glacier has the largest mass loss in Antarctica. Using radio-sounding techniques and developing models of basal reflectivity Das will constrain locations where the bed could have liquid water and where it could be frozen. This would suggest variations in flow speed for the Thwaites Glacier. Three ice sheet models will invert for basal slipperiness or wet or dry bed conditions and compare with the radar work.
