SADA-Millennium Village Monitoring and Evaluation

DESCRIPTION: This project aims to evaluate Millennium Villages Project activities at the SADA site in Northern Ghana by collecting data and inputting performance metrics quarterly into the Millennium Villages Information System (MVIS), via a web-based platform, in addition to population estimates from the demographic census, allowing for the construction and visualization of real-time denominated indicators. In the North Ghana site, the team will measure progress towards a range of pre-defined Millennium Development Goals-related targets. It will further compare observed changes in site to reference groups – including a matched comparison village, as well as national and sub-national data generated from secondary sources such as the Demographic and Health Surveys.

OUTCOMES: The Millennium Project Monitoring and Evaluation team worked closely with local and regional stakeholders to collect baseline data to develop a comprehensive impact assessment framework for the pilot, validate population data for selected communities to be part of the pilot, collect geo-referenced coordinates, and collect data on distances between communities and main markets. Following the baseline data collection, household demographic data was collected at the onset of the project and before each evaluation round, and performance indicators provided an assessment of real-time metrics of activities (i.e. vaccines purchased, numbers of campaigns, etc.), and outputs (i.e. number of children vaccinated). The team will introduce Costing Evaluation as a strategy for monitoring all project inputs, and then conduct a process evaluation to assess the feasibility of the approach and examine how the implementation affects project outcomes.
