- Project Type: Research
DESCRIPTION: The project has three objectives: 1) discriminate volcano and landslide earthquakes from other earthquakes; 2) relate the anomalous earthquakes in volcanic regions to changes in the geometry and behavior of magmatic plumbing systems; 3) improve the methodology for determining trajectory and mass of landslides and apply it to several known and implied landslide events.
OUTCOMES: Found that seismic analysis can be used to characterize many mass-wasting events and found that seismic predictions of sliding mass events match observations well.
