Subglacial drainage and slip modeling in Antarctica: relating lakes to ice discharge

Lead PI: Timothy Creyts , Dr. Robin E. Bell

Unit Affiliation: Marine and Polar Geophysics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

March 2011 - February 2016
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The primary objective of the proposed work is to better understand water flow along the ice-bed interface beneath Antarctica, how this water affects the coupling between ice and the underlying substance, and what role lakes play in the subglacial hydrological system.

OUTCOMES: Primary finding indicate that the compressibility of the water system influences the drainage and failure of the subglacial system
