DESCRIPTION: The project will examine foreshocks to test two hypotheses: the cascade model and the pre-seismic slip model using a catalog of foreshock sequences in northern California. This is to help determine how large earthquakes initiate.
OUTCOMES: Found a negative correlation between foreshock occurrence and depth, a positive correction between occurrence and rake, and a positive correlation between occurrence and mainshock magnitude which may be consistent with the pre-slip model.
