DESCRIPTION: The NPCC3 has formed Work Groups to accomplish the following tasks:
1) Advance regional climate projections related to complex extreme events, especially intense precipitation as well as humidity and heatwaves, and storms;
2) Conduct surveys with community members and associated quantitative analysis and primary and secondary document and literature review on how best to achieve climate resiliency, with special focus on health and equity;
3) Analyze the role of critical interdependencies in infrastructure’s resilience to extreme events, extending throughout the broader New York metropolitan region;
4) Develop and test prototype of the NYC Climate Resiliency Indicators and Monitoring System for infrastructure systems and neighborhoods;
5) Create mapping products related to Tasks 1-3, with improved presentation of risk and uncertainty;
6) Coordinate NPCC3 and publish peer-reviewed NPCC3 Report.

In particular for this grant, NPCC3 would perform work of NPCC’s Work Group 5. The Mapping and Risk Work Group is focused on developing mapping products that communicate risk, vulnerability, and resiliency across New York City. This funding would also support the research coordination for Work Group 4. The Indicators and Monitoring Work Group and provide a set of broad indicators and metrics to capture stresses on critical infrastructure systems.

OUTCOMES: Develop maps that highlight climate change risks to New York City, in particular maps of potential future flooding from sea level rise. These maps would be included as a part of the final full NPCC3 Report. A chapter in this report would be dedicated to the mapping of climate risks.
