The Paleoclimate Reconstruction (PR) Challenge: A Community Program to Benchmark Methods Used to Reconstruct the Climate of the Last 1-2,000 Years

Lead PI: Dr. Rosanne D'Arrigo

Unit Affiliation: Biology and Paleo Environment, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

July 2008 - June 2013

Global
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The project will work to create an open platform for archiving and sharing paleoclimate reconstruction methods; develop an objective benchmarking method for these methods; create a motivation for the paleo community to explore different reconstruction methods; and to bring together the paleo, modeling, and statistics communities to access the current level of knowledge and uncertainty in modeling of the last millennium climate.

OUTCOMES: Developed a Matlab package for driving tree-ring growth simulation model VS-Lite; developed a derivative of this software to create a O18 package; and created a PR-Challenge website.
