DESCRIPTION: The project will examine what controls the variability of tropical cyclone activity to determine how they will change with climate change and reduce uncertainty in predictions. The project will use an empirical genesis potential index and idealized simulations.

OUTCOMES: The genesis potential index was applied within the Madden-Julian Oscillation model to show that it captures environment changes and demonstrated that the most important fact to genesis is mid-level relative humidity followed by low-level absolute vorticity. Eight conferences and workshop contributions, seven seminars, one lecture, and two interviews as well as one journal article and one article in a book resulted from the project so far.
