The purpose of the grant is to measure CFC-11, CFC-12, and SF6 distributions along the US GEOTRACES North Atlantic cruise and use these data to identify the most recently ventilated cores of N. Atlantic water masses, to estimate the transit times of these water masses, and to estimate oxygen consumption rates and rates of production or decomposition of selected trace elements.
OUTCOMES: Cruise completed and data gathered of very high quality. Age of water columns determined.
