Unit Affiliation: Geochemistry, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)
DESCRIPTION: The project's objective is to determine the space-time distribution of the ocean surface pCO2 and sea-air pCO2 difference. When combined with the CO2 gas transfer rate, this will create a reliable net sea-air flux.
OUTCOMES: The LDEO Surface Water pCO2 database has been assembled and made available to the public. Found that the difference in pCO2 between the atmosphere and the Southern Ocean has decreased weakening the ocean's sink intensity. Found that the Arctic Ocean is a strong sink. Nine research papers have been published.
