Environmental and Human Impacts of Nuclear War

Lead PI: Dr. Jonas Jägermeyr

Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: PI Dr. Jonas Jägermeyr is Associate Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research of The Earth Institute, Columbia University. Dr. Jägermeyr will guide and supervise the Post-doc’s model development. He will coordinate related developments in the international community, as part of the Global Gridded Crop Model Intercomparison (GGCMI) and Inter- sectoral Model Intercomparison Project (ISIMIP), and integrate results into a multi-model estimate of crop responses to climate anomalies due to human interference. Moreover, he will support collaboration efforts with different institutions developing mechanistic and empirical crop responses to atmospheric perturbations, including Rutgers University, University of Chicago, and Harvard University.

We plan to hire a new Postdoctoral Research Scientist. This Postdoctoral Research Scientist will assist the PI in advancing the LPJmL agro hydrological model to better understand, represent, and evaluate crop physiological processes in response to changes in diffuse and direct radiation and surface ozone concentration. Pending progress on results and publications, further work would include the implementation of similar developments into the pDSSAT model to advance multi-model estimates. Crop responses to UV radiation could potentially also be implemented but remain optional as a second-order development target.
