DESCRIPTION: Climate change is expected to pose serious challenges to African farmers in the decades ahead, which could lead to increased food insecurity for vulnerable populations across the continent. Our project is a key piece of the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS) initiative, which is coordinated by The U.S. Department of State, Office of the Special Envoy for Global Food Security, in partnership with the African Union and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. By investigating the impact of climate change on a variety of wellresearched (e.g., maize, wheat) and understudied crops (e.g., bambara groundnut, pigeonpea) we aim to provide actionable insights into the crops that are best equipped to provide stable and nutritious diets in the face of climate variability and extreme weather events.
