DESCRIPTION: The goal of this study is to develop algorithms of net primary production (NPP) for use with JAXAs ocean color satellite GCOM-C SGLI. We will rely on the phytoplankton biomass-independent model, hereinafter the Absorption Based Model (AbPM), that affords a more sophisticated and pragmatic approach for extending local shipboard NPP measurements to regional and basin scales. AbPM uses satellite derived absorption coefficients of phytoplankton (aph, m-1), photosynthetic available radiation (PAR), phytoplankton quantum efficiencies (ϕ) and euphotic zone depth for estimating integrated NPP.
