Collaborative Research: Advanced Models of Magma Migration at Convergent MARGINS

Lead PI: Marc Spiegelman

Unit Affiliation: Seismology, Geology and Tectonophysics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

February 2009 - January 2013
Inactive
Global
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The project will develop, test, and apply flexible tools for modeling arc fluid flow and magmatism focusing on processes occurring in a critical zone of the Subduction Factory.

OUTCOMES: Found that by including both fluid transport and thermodynamically consistent fluid production the fluid pathways can be calculated throughout the wedge. The model appears to be able to be compared directly to specific observations in certain cases. Began investigating currently available parameterizations of wet melting.
