Collaborative Research: Fossil Coral Estimates of Central Tropical Pacific SST and Hydrological Variability during the last Millennium

Lead PI: Jason E Smerdon

Unit Affiliation: Ocean and Climate Physics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

September 2011 - August 2014

Pacific Ocean
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The team will generate multiple monthly-resolved, multi-proxy reconstructions of central tropical Pacific SST and hydrology from modern and fossil corals to deliver quantitative uncertainty estimates for each reconstruction.

OUTCOMES: Data has been downloaded. Precipitation, evaporation, and SST fields have been gridded to 2 degree by 2 degree grids for four simulations. Sea surface salinity has been added. Comparison of simulations and observations is underway.
