DESCRIPTION: The team will conduct high pressure, high temperature laboratory experiments to determine solidus location, melting reactions, and residual mineral assemblages, and major trace element concentrations of partial melts and residual solids in order to: 1) investigate if carbonate saturated, subducting siliceous sediments can melt at sub-arc depth; 2) to understand possible mobility and melting of subducting sedimentary carbonates; and 3) to constrain the contribution of carbonate-saturated sediments in the chemical budget of arc magmas.
