Unit Affiliation: Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR)
DESCRIPTION: This project aims to take advantage of the continuous ARM measurements to enhance and accelerate GCM evaluation and improvement of parameterizations of fast processes, narrowing the uncertainties and systematic biases in current climate models, with several objectives.
OUTCOMES: Build a Fast-Physics Testbed that allows rapid evaluation of fast physics by taking advantage of continuous long-term cloud observations made by the ARM program in a wide range of climatic regimes at the several ARM sites and during AMF deployments. Perform continuous evaluation of fast physics, identify, and determine model errors. Examine parameterizations of various cloud processes/properties. Explore and develop necessary metrics. Incorporate the newly acquired knowledge on parameterizations into the full participating GCMs.
