DESCRIPTION: This project aims to develop a system for simulating crop growth using DSSAT in order to predict yield for major crops in Hokkaido, Japan. Since initiated in 2013, the project established a system for SOS sensor web infrastructure (cloudSense), installed field severs and conducted initial crop model testing and validation for wheat, soybean, sugar beet and potato. In the new phase from 2015 – 2016, this project added new features to the crop yield prediction system by applying data assimilation techniques.
OUTCOMES: Various crop modeling and start-of-art field observations were applied for providing agricultural services for farmers in Hokkaido, Japan
