CSEDI Collaborative Research: Integrating Seismological, Rheological and Petrological Studies of Melt Production and Transport in Subduction Zones

Lead PI: Geoffrey Abers , Terry Plank , Dr. Ben Holtzman

Unit Affiliation: Seismology, Geology and Tectonophysics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

September 2011 - August 2014
Inactive
Global ; Marianas Trench ; Nicaragua-Costa Rice subduction zone
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: The team compared recent seismic imaging results from the Nicaragua-Costa Rica subduction zone with the Marinanas. Also re-revaluating and comparing laboratory measurements of physical properties at relevant conditions.

OUTCOMES: Presented first year results at the Fall 2011 AGU meeting, held an all-day "Q Summit", and demonstrated that seismic attenuation (1/Q) measurements are closely tied to thermal structure.
