Determining the Frictional Temperature Rise During the 2011 Tohoku EarthQuake

Lead PI: Heather Savage

Unit Affiliation: Seismology, Geology and Tectonophysics, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)

June 2013 - May 2014
Inactive
Pacific Ocean
Project Type: Research

DESCRIPTION: Samples from cores taken during Expedition 343 will be tested using biomarkers to determine maximum temperatures experienced by rocks as a result of frictional heating during the Tohoku earthquake. Results will be calibrated with experimentally heated samples.
