Unit Affiliation: Biology and Paleo Environment, Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO)
DESCRIPTION: The team will use remote sensing, bio-optical measurements, deployment and analysis of data from Lagrangian profilers, quantification of elemental fluxes from bacteria, and chemical analysis of hydrocarbons to explore correlative relationships between potential release of macro and micro nutrients from the degradation of oil and phytoplankton blooms in the Gulf of Mexico.
OUTCOMES: The team participated in a research cruise that collected samples, repaired and re-calibrated LISST, collected data from ALF and laser-induced fluorescence, developed a solid phase extraction method, and conducted biomarker analysis for oil snow samples.
