DESCRIPTION: The project will use spectral descriptions of physical fields to characterize error in satellite data sets for sea surface height and temperature including location dependent variances and spatial and temporal covariances using GSFC/GMAO and NCEP/EMC ocean runs.

OUTCOMES: Created detailed intercomparisons of spatial and temporal variability of sea surface heights. When partially summarized with smooth spectral slopes at 30-150 days these resembled eddy activity. Maps of wavenumber spectral slope produced distinct spectral shapes in the 100-300km range. Maps of satellite error produced.
