Evaluation of Finestructure Mixing Parameterization Based on LADCP Shear

DESCRIPTION: The project will attempt to understand the magnitude and nature of uncertainties associated with mixing estimates derived using several related finestructure parameterization methods. Two approaches will be used to achieve this: 1) An analysis of the differences between finestructure and microstructure-derived mixing coefficients; and 2) uncertainty estimates will be derived for the parameters and input data dominating uncertainties associated with the finestructure methods, particularly LADCP-derived shear spectra.

OUTCOMES: One journal publication. 34 deep simultaneous CTD/LADCP/Microstructure profiles collected; 81 mostly full-depth simultaneous CTD/LADCP/Microstructure profiles collected; data reprocessed with 4 different processing packages; processing results showed that the LADCP processing has a strong result on the shear spectra so corrections were made and published.
