DESCRIPTION: This project aims to develop a high-resolution (10km) gridded soil database for the globe and Africa in order to apply DSSAT crop simulation models in the context of crop productivity or food security. One of the obstacles in applying advanced crop simulation models such as DSSAT at a grid-based platform is the lack of gridded soil input data at various resolutions. Taking advantage of recently released global, gridded high resolution soil databases (SoilGrids 1km and ISRIC-AfSIS at 1km resolution), this project aims to develop a set of DSSAT compatible soil profiles on 5 arc-minute grid (which is HarvestChoice’s standard grid).

OUTCOMES: IRI developed a high resolution (10km) global soil dataset for a crop simulation model (DSSAT). The dataset has been actively used by IFPRI for food security analysis etc. The final product, soil dataset, are publically available https://dataverse.harvard.edu/dataset.xhtml?persistentId=doi:10.7910/DVN/1PEEY0
