Alicia Roman

BIOGRAPHY: Alicia Roman is the Senior Associate Dean for Finance and Administration for the Columbia Climate School and is charged with the oversight of financial, administrative, and strategic operations. Alicia has over 15 years of experience managing diverse and complex financial and administrative operations as well as providing strategic direction and implementation for large-scale initiatives. In her prior role Alicia served as Chief Operating Officer in the Office of the Chief Academic Officer at the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE), responsible for the management and allocation of a $4.5B budget and over 5000 staff members. Her portfolio included city wide assessments, Special Education, Multi-lingual Learners, and Curriculum and Instruction.

She formerly served as Executive Director of Budget, Operations, and Strategic Projects in the Office of Curriculum, Instructions and Professional Learning at the NYC DOE, where she was charged with the development of financial, human capital, and operational strategies for the office, including the management of $145M budget. She spearheaded the implementation of multi-million dollar Mayoral Initiatives like The Universal Literacy Program and Algebra for All. Earlier in her career at the NYC Department of Education she served as Budget Director for its Division of Academic, Performance and Support, and Budget Analyst for the Division of Performance and Accountability. Alicia also served in various roles at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Educational Testing Service, The Brookings Institution, and the College Board. Alicia received her undergraduate degree in English from The College of William and Mary, a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from George Washington University, and a Doctor of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. She resides in the tri-state area with her wife, Yanick, her daughter, three cats, and one dog.
