BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Kong Chyong is an applied energy economist and policy analyst with a strong background and more than 15 years of experience in applications of economics and operational research methods to energy and climate policy questions. Kong graduated from the University of Cambridge with an MPhil in Technology Policy (2007) and a PhD in Energy Economics and Policy (2011). His PhD centered around modelling Gazprom’s pipeline investment strategy in the context of Russo-Ukrainian bilateral relations.
Kong is an energy market modelling enthusiast and Founder of CEM - Cambridge Energy Model - a set of energy market modelling tools, which he developed during his studies at the University of Cambridge.
His research interest includes geopolitics and economics of Russian natural gas export, Russo-Ukrainian energy relations, economic modelling of global gas and LNG markets, large-scale power markets modelling, and energy system modelling for Net Zero policy analyses.
Prior to joining Columbia University, Kong was a research associate with the Energy Policy Research Group (EPRG) based at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. Before his studies at Cambridge University, Kong worked as a research assistant at the Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences (Kyiv).
